'Dwarf Carpet of Stars' planted as plugs "plugging"

"Plugging" can be used as an option OR in addition to laying like sod.

"Plugging" can be used for large parcels of landscape OR when budget concerns are in place.  However, when you "plug" an area, you need to give it time to connect.  Most plugging is done in 4"-6" increments depending on needs, timeline, budget, etc.

4" will need on average 2.5 months to fill in. (longer during November thru early February)

6" will need on average 3.5-4 months to fill in. (longer during November thru early February)

Sometimes a combination of both work out great!  Lay your immediate area of need like sod, and/or plug the remaining area if time isn't of concern.  Laid like sod has many more advantages, like immediate results, immediately ready for traffic/pets, and basically self efficient at time of planting; however it is more expensive.

Plugging advantages: Savings in cost of product.

Plugging disadvantages:  Not immediate results, and traffic needs to be minimized to let it establish.  Pets are also a concern because area needs to stay damp for 30 days to get properly established.  Some pets might be attracted to the damp soil that's exposed until it connects.

Prior To Purchase and Planting:  Decide how you want to obtain your StarCarpet™ yard whether having immediate results by laying it similar to sod or deciding to save some investment and being patient with the “plugging” method. Plugging seems to be pretty popular in Southern California whereas laying it like sod is definitely the choice in Nevada. Either way, it’s up to YOU the customer. All depends on what your future and immediate goals are.
